1. How to leave Verizon and get an iPhone…

So I have been eyeing an iPhone since they first debuted, but decided to be patient until it would not be financially devastating (Even though the savings between Cingular’s phone and Verizon’s would have paid for the cost of the iPhone over the 2 year contract, I still faced a $175 early termination fee (ETF) to get out of my Verizon contract) to get one due to the fact that I was in the middle of my Verizon contract. After having my 4th Motorola Q die on me I went in to Verizon and told them I did not want another Q and needed a phone to make it through Crunch Week (the week before Christmas). I walked out with a boat anchor, er, I mean a Treo 700wx, which in my opinion is the least intuitive phone I have ever used. Honestly, there is not really a smartphone in Verizon’s line that I would consider highly desirable.

Finally, last night I saw my opportunity to break free and have a cell carrier with a good phone selection. I was searching the internet and came across this script.

Basically, Verizon is increasing their text message rates again, but unfortunately I already had the 250 texts for $5.00 a month plan so the text rate for additional messages would not change since I already had a plan. But, they also decided to increase their international incoming text message rates which affects people both with and without text message plans. Because of this change I was able to get out of my Verizon contract without paying money for an ETF and then save money by lowering my monthly bill which equals a financial gain.

If you live in Anderson, I would go talk to Frederick at Cingular, he will take good care of you.

I will post a short review of the iPhone in the next couple weeks, initial impressions- the coverage is not as great as Verizon’s, but the phone is so amazing it makes up for it.
